Now I'm a boring 33-year old husband and father, but I still get that warm feeling I got the first time I listened to Meddle. For all that menacing, hatchet-happy growl at the beginning of Meddles opener, 'One of These Days', Pink Floyd really werent about to 'cut you into little pieces'.Meddle did, however, show that the reigning British monarchs of 1970s-era psychedelia could rip into galloping jams. When I started doing drugs, Meddle was an obvious choice for listening - whether I was just getting a little high, drinking a bottle of Robitussin, or my first time with LSD, Meddle never let me down. PICTURE CD - EMI UK REMASTERS 1994 - EAN 724382974925 .uk. Through college I listened to more and more Floyd, but Meddle was always there for me like a warm blanket. Of course I've broadened my musical horizons since then, but Echoes was the first step into art-rock and even now I still consider it a pinnacle of the genre. Then I borrowed a copy of Meddle from a girl I went to school with (I was about 16) and was blown away by Echoes. My early Pink Floyd exposure was just a song here and there - Money, Another Brick, Wish You Were Here. #Pink floyd meddle no cd#
There is no CD mastering out there which is compressed or no-noised (as far as I know). Even the level-shifted versions sound nice to me.
There are many versions out there, but quite a few are based on that original EMI/Harvest mastering, some are exactly the same and some are level-shifted versions. I haven't heard a really bad version of "Meddle" on CD.
For low volume listening, the MFSL is great though (I think). I notice this especially on the louder parts of "Echoes", where the EMI/Harvest mastering stays smooth even at louder volumes and where I really have to turn the volume on the MFSL down because it becomes uncomfortable.

Click to expand.Hi Dave, while I would really not go that far to call the MFSL of "Meddle" a complete disappointment (I still think it is a nice mastering, just a different approach), I agree with you that at louder volumes, the MFSL can be quite piercing and almost harsh sounding.
